The Mydoom virus is a wide-spreading worm that is sent with an attachment with the file extension .bat, .pif, .exe, .cmd, .scr, or .zip.
This worm virus opens TCP ports 3127 through 3198 on an infected system, which then allows an attacker to connect to infected machine and use it as a proxy to allow access to its network resources.
The Mydoom virus is scheduled to perform a Denial of Service (DoS) attack on the Microsoft and SCO website on the 1st of February 2004.
Like several of the other fast spreading virus, the Mydoom worm has a trigger date to stop spreading on; February the 12th 2004. However the backdoor feature of this worm will continue to work and can still be used by attackers.
